This plane was used in the koi pond walkway project to finish over 50 port orford boards. I started the project with 8 finish planes, and this was by far the most reliable plane of the group. By the end, I was only using this one. It is set up and cutting well, including the blade being fit to the dai, and the bevel hollow ground and set up in a style meant for fast work as written about by Jon Billing. It would make a good study piece for someone and will do good work.
Yamaguchi was and is a favorite plane maker for Kezuroukai competitors, on a budget. The blades used to be 200ish new, when he was practicing. He has been long retired and over the last few years the remaining stock of his work has dwindled. For sure one of the best value plane makers out there, his work outperforming blades 2-3 times as much, often enough. This blade is good but not legendary, in other words, and honestly. I have another one of this same blade, so I figure I will let this one go as my tooling is weighing me down.
